(i) Leakage from pressure

1. Fault one: mechanical seal leakage caused by high pressure and pressure waves

Causes: Spring pressure and total pressure design is too large, when the pressure in the seal cavity exceeds 3MPa, it will make the seal surface pressure is too large, the liquid film is difficult to form, the seal surface wear is serious, heat generation increases, resulting in thermal deformation of the seal surface.

Solution: When assembling the machine seal, the spring compression must be carried out in accordance with the regulations, not allowing the phenomenon of too large or too small, the mechanical seal under high pressure conditions should take measures. In order to make the end face reasonably stressed and minimize deformation, carbide, ceramic and other materials with high pressure resistance can be used, and strengthen the cooling and lubrication measures.

2. Fault two: mechanical seal leakage caused by vacuum state operation

Causes: pump in the start-up, shutdown process, due to pump inlet blockage, pumping medium containing gas and other reasons, there may be negative pressure in the seal cavity, if the negative pressure in the seal cavity, will cause the seal end face dry friction, the internal mechanical seal will produce leakage (water) phenomenon.

Solution: The assembly uses double-ended mechanical seals, which help to improve lubrication conditions and seal performance.

(ii) Leakage due to media

1. Fault 1: The auxiliary seals of the static and dynamic rings are not flexible or some have rotted, causing a large amount of leakage from the machine seal or even the phenomenon of grinding the shaft.

Causes: high temperature, weak acids and alkalis in the sewage on the static ring and moving ring auxiliary rubber seal corrosion, resulting in excessive mechanical leakage, moving, static ring rubber seal material for nitrile 40, not resistant to high temperature, not resistant to acid and alkali, when the sewage is acidic alkali easy corrosion.

Solution: For corrosive media, the rubber parts should be made of fluorine rubber, which is resistant to high temperatures and weak acids and alkalis.

2. Failure two: vacuum solid particles impurities caused by mechanical seal leakage

Causes: solid particles into the seal end face, will scratch or speed up the seal end wear, scale and oil in the shaft (sleeve) surface of the accumulation of more than the speed of friction wear, resulting in the dynamic ring can not compensate for wear displacement, hard to hard friction vice operating life than hard to graphite friction vice long, because the solid particles will be embedded in the graphite seal ring sealing surface.

Solution: A tungsten carbide to tungsten carbide friction sub mechanical seal should be used in the location where solid particles can easily enter.
