The Difference Between Rotary Lobe Pump And Self-Priming Centrifugal Pump

What are the advantages of lobe pumps compared to self-priming centrifugal pumps? What are the differences between the two? Today Ace lobe pump's will take you through!

The working principle of lobe pumps

The rotor of the lobe pump is driven by a pair of synchronous gears and rotates relative to each other. The rotor is designed with a small gap between the rotor and the pump casing to form a relatively airtight chamber, and the rotor rotates continuously to push the medium from the inlet end to the outlet end.

The working principle of self-priming centrifugal pumps

1、Gas-liquid mixed self-priming pump: due to the special structure of the pump body of the self-priming pump, after the pump stops, there is a certain amount of water in the pump body, after the pump starts again due to the rotation of the impeller, the air and water in the inhalation line are fully mixed and discharged to the gas-water separation chamber, the gas in the upper part of the gas-water separation chamber overflows, the water in the lower part returns to the impeller and mixes with the remaining air in the inhalation line again until the gas in the pump and inhalation tube is completely discharged, completing self-priming and pumping normally. All discharged, complete self-priming, and normal pumping.

2、Water ring wheel type self-priming pump: The water ring wheel and the pump impeller are combined in a casing, and the gas is discharged with the help of the water ring wheel to achieve self-priming. When the pump works normally, it can cut off the passage between the water ring wheel and the water pump impeller through the valve and release the liquid inside the water ring wheel.

3、Self-priming jet pump: A combination of a centrifugal pump and a jet pump (or ejector) that relies on a jet device to create a vacuum at the nozzle to achieve suction.

lobe pumps have the following advantages compared to self-priming centrifugal pumps.

1、Self-priming dry rotation

The lobe pump can run dry for short periods of time due to independent cooling and lubrication of the mechanical seal and can reach a self-priming height of 9 metres

2. Forward and reverse rotation

The pump body and rotor of the lobe pump are symmetrical in design, thus enabling integrated loading and unloading

3、Overgrain capacity

The lobe pump has no effect on the pump due to the constant flushing of the rotor against the pump body, and soft particles can pass through 80mm

4、Abrasion resistance

lobe pumps with rubber covered rotors for the transport of abrasive media such as sludge, oil sludge and oily sludge

5、Gas-liquid mixing

lobe pumps can be individually evacuated and can be used for the pumping and transfer of oil and sludge floats

6. Maintenance costs

lobe pumps can be repaired quickly without dismantling the pipes and motor

lobe pumps for the pumping and transfer of sludge, oily sewage, biogas and digestate in a small footprint, short time and low maintenance costs
