The lobe pump is suitable for conveying liquids with high viscosity and containing solid particles. It is because of its simple structure, lubrication, no inhalation valve and discharge valve, relying on the rotor in the pump body and the liquid contact side of the energy in the form of static pressure directly on the liquid, and through the rotating rotor squeezing effect of the liquid discharge, while leaving space on the other side, the formation of low pressure, so that the liquid continuous inhalation, so, to fill the lobe pump with lubricant to ensure its normal use.
So, how do you lubricate a lobe pump?
1. Check and refill method
A small amount of lubricant is taken as a sample and compared with fresh lubricant. Units that are able to do so may consider conducting an oil quality test to ensure that the oil is satisfactory. If the sample appears cloudy, this may be the result of mixing with water, i.e. emulsification of the oil, which is usually the result of replacing the lubricant. If the sample ranges darken or thicken, this may indicate that the lubricant has started to carbonise and the old lubricant should be replaced completely. If possible, flush the oil line with new lubricant. When replacing the lubricant, ensure that the old and new type of lubricant is replaced and replenished to the required oil level.
2、Use of oil bath lubrication system
If the oil temperature is below 60 (140 F) and the oil is not contaminated, the oil can be changed once a year. If the oil temperature is between 60 and 100 (140-210) F, the lubricant will need to be changed four times a year. If the oil temperature is between 100 and 120 degrees Celsius (210-250 degrees Fahrenheit), the oil will need to be changed once a month. If the oil temperature is above 120 (250F), a weekly oil change is required.
3、Check the oil level and quality of the lubricant regularly
In general, the normal oil level should be within 1/3-2/3 of the equipment oil level window or indicated. The oil level in the pump bearing housing meets the operating requirements. If the oil level in the oil cup is less than 1/4 of its total volume, oil replenishment may be considered.
4. Installation and maintenance
Correct installation and maintenance are important factors in ensuring the proper functioning of lobe pump bearings. At the same time, care must be taken to maintain the cleanliness of the pump bearings. Bearings must be protected against contaminants and moisture contamination and must be correctly mounted and lubricated. In addition, the corrective design of the bearing, the condition of the oil seal, the form and replacement intervals of the lubricant and special maintenance also play an important role and must be taken into account.
